The Oakey Golf Club was established in 1929 after the three golf courses in and around Oakey, that occupied farm land under lease were subsumed back to farm land.

When the lease expired the club had to locate another site and the current site was purchased in 1962 and has remained there ever since.

Percy L. Grant designed the course and the founding members helped to create the course layout in their own time.

It took 12 months for the course to be constructed and was officially opened on 23 October 1963.

The club has experienced a number of floods, especially in 1974 and 2011 when the site was inundated.

Of all the establishment committee only two currently survive.
